My first SFDW...woah. I started it off by volunteering at AIGA SF Portfolio Day a week before this event-fest launched. For me, volunteering is just as much fun as attending and I think I kept a pretty good balance of the two. I don't often say "no" to an opportunity to meet new people, especially people I share a solid passion with.
I think when I first moved here I burnt myself out in the first few two months, desperately looking for a full-time career. Since then I have taken a step back, and remember that I need to enjoy my move to SF. So, it was revitalizing and invigorating to network in such a lax, fun format. I wasn't the only young professional giving my time and energy to a pretty hectic week, I made all great connections!
It was also awesome to experience open studios. The only way I've ever had that kind of access to studios was thanks to a professor in school setting up a visit, not really an option now. So, I consider myself pretty lucky to live in such an accessible city for creatives. I played corn-hole with the principle and the Creative Director of DesignStudio SF(what!), I snuck in to some photo-booths, and hustled for connections and free beer. I'm tempted to go on and on about how overwhelming, scary, and exhilarating exhilarating exhilarating week was...or maybe I just did. One day I will give back as much energy and inspiration as this community has to me, but for now checking people in on the guestlist will suffice.
Also, this footage is not rare, one of my favorite hobbies is pranks.
